"the truth is that it straddles the genre and offers a little bit of everything"
Awarded 8 out of 10
"We were keen to discover which strain of funk this triple disc set would cover, but the truth is that it straddles the genre and offers a little bit of everything. Some of the slower beats have a hip-hop/soul feel to them, while the guitars are, predictably, of the choppy wah-wah variety in the main. We liked the 60s funk style basses - though we were less enamoured with the slapped recordings - and the stabs and brass licks are tasty too. The swirling Rhodes seem a little chilled compared with the rest, but the vocals could almost have been recorded by James Brown himself, and they complete another impressive set. "
