"Once again Mr Boddy has come up with a vast, fresh selection of tasty sonic treasures.....This disk is really worth checking out!! "
"Malice in Wonderland is the latest disk from UK synthesist Ian Boddy who apart from recording ten albums on his own Something Else label has also produced Zero Gs Ambient Vol 1+2 and the Creative Essentials Vol 7 Dreamzone. Ian kicks off with a section of Drumloops which have been subject to all manner of filtering and digital effects processing. The loops cover a wide range of tempos from 80 to 170 BPM and incorporate a broad variety of styles from House to Jungle to the undefinable.
The important thing to note about these loops is that they are cliche free, so you won't find anything you've heard twenty times before on other sample CDs. Hallelujah! FX loops is short, sometimes musical, sometimes non-musical phrases that have also been put through the studio effects rack (think science fiction soundtrack and you're in the right ball park) Synth Percussion Loops & Arpeggios is very appropriate description for the next section which sees all sorts of synth percussion and white noise once again heavily treated and moulded in to short rhythm loops.
A few short squelching arpeggios are also included for good measure. These are excellent. One Shot Percussion Effects is exactly that, while Ambience's is series of soundscapes Brian Eno would be proud of. These are sometimes quite long- 30 secs plus and where appropriate key signatures are given. Finishing up with more of Ian's speciality, namely all things ambient, we have a selection of way out Bells, deep spooky hovering Drones and Weird Voices. Describing these sounds is pretty futile, as they are largely undefinable. Once again Mr Boddy has come up with a vast fresh selection of tasty sonic treasures. This disk is really worth checking out!! "
